Slowing Down The Signs Of Aging

With age comes knowledge - and wrinkles, and fine lines, and crow’s feet. We’re growing older and wiser, so let’s be wise about slowing down the signs of aging by being privy to a few simple tricks. Dr. Goldman and Dr. Dubow suggest the following:Prevention For Success: Think of caring for your skin as you would your savings account. You don’t expect your savings account to have $1 million in it over night. You need to save. Much like your savings account, you need to save your skin too. Start protecting your skin at an earlier age, as opposed to starting when you’re older. This will keep your skin looking youthful later on in life and postpone the need for anti-aging treatments!

Wear Sunscreen: Wearing sunscreen daily, in combination with a daily moisturizer, will help keep your skin safe from sun damage. The new FDA Sunscreen guidelines suggest wearing a broad spectrum sunscreen of at least SPF 15 to protect against both UVA and UVB radiation on a daily basis. Apply your sunscreen before your moisturizer for maximum protection.

Stop Wrinkles From Forming: Repeated scowling or squinting leads to horizontal lines on your forehead and/or crow’s feet around the eyes. If you are able to stop the muscle movement early with preventative Botox injections, you will have a greater chance of keeping the wrinkles away for greater period of time. If you already have wrinkles Botox injections will also help minimize their appearance.

If you would like to learn more about slowing down the signs of aging or would like to schedule an appointment for a consultation, please call (310) 855-1160 today!

Choosing A Good Sunscreen

Choosing a sunscreen isn’t as simple as it used to be, and with summer quickly approaching it is important you know how to find a good one.

Dr. Dubow specializes in skin cancer treatments and wants you to protect your skin from the harmful rays of the sun and reduce your risk for skin cancer.

Over the years he has discovered that most patients select a sunscreen based only on the sun protection factor (SPF), but there is more to it than that. The SPF number is a rating of how well the sunscreen protects skin against one type of cancer-causing UV ray, ultraviolet B (UVB). But you also need to protect your skin from ultraviolet A rays (UVA), which cause sun damage and wrinkles, and also increase your risk of skin cancer.

A BROAD-SPECTRUM SUNSCREEN that protects you from both UVA and UVB is the best option. Here is what to take into consideration when selecting a sunscreen:

UVB PROTECTION: Look for a sunscreen with SPF 15 or higher. (People with very fair skin or a family history of skin cancer should select an SPF 30 or higher.)

UVA PROTECTION: There is no rating to tell you how good a sunscreen is at blocking UVA rays, so you need to look at the ingredients. A good sunscreen will contain at least 1 of the following UVA blocking ingredients: ecamsule, avobenzone, oxybenzone, titanium dioxide, sulisobenzone or zinc oxide.

A broad-spectrum sunscreen will lower your risk for skin cancer and prevent sun damage.

Our favorite sunscreen is SkinCeuticals Physical Fusion UV Defence, SPF 50. It has a slight tint so it gives your skin a nice glow, and feels like a lightweight moisturizer. It is our top seller for both men and women.

Turn Your Frown Upside Down

“Frown lines” are often the biggest cause for concern among patients at Goldman Dubow Dermatology Group.

Scrunched eyebrows, pronounced nasolabial folds and thinning lips can make you look unhappy or angry, even when you are actually happy.

Dr. Goldman and Dr. Dubow are both expert injectors and can get rid of your deceiving frown instantly with fillers and Botox!

Vertical lines develop between your eyebrows after years of squinting or frowning. Botox injections will erase these lines and leave your skin looking smooth.

Nasolabial folds run from your nose to your mouth and can accentuate a frown. These lines begin to appear as your skin loses collagen. Juvederm or Restylane injections will revolumize this area so you look years younger.

Lips lose their natural volume and become thinner as you age. With a Restylane or Juvederm lip enhancement treatment you can have smooth, full lips again.

These quick fixes will erase your frown and give you another reason to keep smiling!

If you are interested in these fast frown fixes, please call to schedule a consultation with Dr. Goldman or Dr. Dubow!

Guide To Glowing Skin

Are your wrinkles, brown spots and uneven skin tone all you see when you look in the mirror? Luckily, you can get your skin to glow again with help from Dr. Goldman and Dr. Dubow.

CHEMICAL PEELS are a great treatment to improve your skin’s texture and tone. A peel will remove the top layer of dull skin. Once the dead skin has flaked away, your skin will appear rejuvenated and luminous! We offer light peels which you can do the day of a special event. Or deeper peels that require some healing time but offer more dramatic results.

FRAXEL LASER RESURFACING is another effective treatment to restore your skin’s glow. Fraxel treatments can target specific age spots and deeper, more stubborn spots that a chemical peel can’t remove. The laser will eliminate old, damaged skin cells, resulting in fresh, healthy skin. Dr. Dubow performs every Fraxel laser treatment at our office, so you know you’re in good hands.

Schedule a consultation to find out more about how you can get your glow back!

Botox For Beginners

When you look in the mirror do you see more fine lines and wrinkles than you did a few weeks ago? If so, maybe it is time to start considering Botox.

For many, the thought of Botox can be a little daunting. We understand that needles and the potential for a frozen face can make anyone nervous. But we promise there is no reason to worry!

Dr. Goldman and Dr. Dubow are both expert Botox injectors and have some great information to help put first-time Botoxers at ease. Here are answers to your biggest Botox questions:

What wrinkles can Botox erase?
-Smile and frown lines
-Crow’s feet
-11 lines (creases in between your eyes)
-Forehead wrinkles

How does Botox work?
Botox is injected directly into the muscle that affects the wrinkles or fine lines that you want to get rid of. The Botox temporarily relaxes the muscle, which prevents it from contracting. This stops creases from forming when you frown, smile or squint and allows the skin to smooth out.

How long does it take to see the results?
Your wrinkles will disappear within a week of getting your Botox injections.

Will everyone notice I have had Botox injections?
Not if you go to an experienced injector like Dr. Goldman and Dr. Dubow. A true expert will know exactly where to place the Botox and how much of it to use to give you natural looking results. You will simply look refreshed.

However, we have all heard Botox horror stories of a frozen face or overly lift eyebrows… But this is a results of going to someone who is not qualified to inject Botox. So please be smart about who you let touch your face!

How long will the Botox results last?
Botox generally lasts for about 3-4 months. The more you get it, the longer the results can last.

Is Botox safe?
Absolutely! Botox has a very safe track record. And when injected by an expert, like Dr. Goldman or Dr. Dubow, you have nothing to worry about!

Botox is the most common non-surgical cosmetic procedure and treatments are performed daily at Goldman Dubow Dermatology Group. So stop looking at your unwanted wrinkles in the mirror and schedule your first Botox treatment with us today!!

30% of men have some degree of hair loss by the age of 30. By the age of 70, this statistic jumps to 70% for both men AND women.Depending on your gender, age and degree of hair loss, we offer a variety of in-office and at-home solutions including topical medication, oral pills and local scalp injections.

For more advanced cases of hair loss, hair transplant surgery may be recommended.

This surgery is based on the fact that hair growing on the back of the scalp has different genetic coding than hair on the front and top of the scalp. Dr. Goldman can surgically reposition the healthy hair to balding areas.

Hair naturally grows in small groupings of 2-3 hairs, known as follicular units.

By using these naturally occurring follicular units for transplantation, Dr. Goldman can achieve an incredibly natural looking result.

Dr. Goldman is an internationally renowned hair transplant surgeon who operates on both men and women, including dignitaries and celebrities from around the world. He has been featured recently on The Doctors and in The New York Times for his innovative techniques.

If you are bothered by hair loss, please call 310-855-1160 to schedule a consultation.

Ever since the ancient queens of Egypt applied lip liner, luscious lips have been sought-after and prized. However, many women are afraid of Hollywood ‘duck lips’ if they choose dermal filler enhancement.Dr. Goldman and Dr. Dubow are both expert injectors who strive for the most natural looking results.

Since every individual’s lips are unique, there is no cookie-cutter approach to treatment. Not everyone can have Angelina Jolie lips, as it may not fit in with the rest of their facial features and be obvious they’ve had ‘work done.’ Dr. Goldman or Dr. Dubow will perform a thorough analysis of your teeth, lip length, age, race and gender to determine the best course of treatment.

We have the less is more philosophy, as with lips a little bit of filler really does go a long way. Drs. Goldman and Dubow normally use a dermal filler such as Juvederm or Restylane which last up to 9 months.

Women at any age should be able to enjoy fuller, sexier lips, and as long as you go to an expert injector, you will be able to achieve a beautiful set of lips specifically designed for you

Sun Protection 101

Sun damage to the skin is no laughing matter. Unfortunately, it can take years or even decades for symptoms to become visible.Starting in our youth, the sun’s UV rays prompt cellular changes in the deepest layers of our skin that ultimately cause brown spots, wrinkles, rough texture, and in extreme cases – skin cancer. Fortunately, there are options available to protect your skin from the sun.

BEFORE YOU HEAD OUTSIDE make sure you are wearing at least an SPF 30 sunscreen. There are many moisturizers with sunscreen built in available at the drugstore, or stop by our office to test our favorites.

If you’ll be spending an extended period of time in the sun, such as going to the beach or one of your kid’s soccer games, opt for a higher SPF sunscreen and don’t forget to reapply every hour or so, especially after swimming or sweating.

WHILE YOU’RE OUTSIDE it is best to seek out the shade and keep covered up as much as possible with clothing and a hat.

AFTER YOU RETURN FROM THE SUN if you did get burned, apply a lotion with aloe to soothe and hydrate your skin.

You can also drink green tea and take an antioxidant supplement (500 mg of vitamin C twice a day) to help prevent free radical damage to your cells. For a bad burn, take ibuprofen every four hours to reduce discomfort and redness.

Remember to get a full body skin check every year with either Dr. Goldman or Dr. Dubow for the early detection of pre cancerous lesions.

If you do develop any skin cancers or pre cancerous lesions, as long as we catch them early enough, we can usually remove the lesion with a prescription treatment or Mohs surgery.

Skin cancers are treatable and often preventable, so please protect yourself from the sun and with the help of your dermatologist.
