We offer advanced diagnosis and management of most skin disorders including:

acne

Acne is the most common skin problem in the United States. It is a skin condition that causes zits, whiteheads, blackheads, and inflamed red growths to from blemishes on face. Acne occurs when pores on the surface of the skin become clogged. The clogged pore is a result of dead skin cells getting stuck inside of the pore and becoming trapped, and is not able to properly rise to the surface.  Acne most commonly occurs on he face, but can also appear on the back, chest, neck, shoulders and upper arms.

Dr. Goldman or Dr. Dubow will examine your skin to diagnose your particular acne and then develop effective acne treatments for you. There are multiple solutions for treating acne outbreaks, and the best treatment for acne and the best product for acne control depends on your particular condition. Acne help treatments can include over the counter products like acne creams, topical prescription medications, oral prescription pills for acne, laser treatments or chemical peels. Keep in mind that to get rid of acne, the treatments do no work over night, and it often takes 1-2 months to see results.  It is important to treat acne in order to avoid permanent acne scarring.

rosacea

Rosacea is a common, chronic skin condition involving inflammation of cheeks, nose, chin, forehead or eyelids. People suffering from rosacea have a tendency to flush or blush easily, have visible broken red blood vessels on the face, swollen skin or rough skin.  In some cases, patients experience acne-like breakouts with their rosacea. Although the exact causes of rosacea is unknown, individuals are more likely to develop the skin condition if: they are fair-skinned, blush easily, are female, and in between the ages of 30 and 50 years old. If you suffer from the condition or think you are at a higher risk of developing the condition, it is important to know the rosacea facts in order to minimize your flare-ups.

In order to diagnose rosacea, Dr. Goldman or Dr. Dubow will examine the affected area and will then determine which rosacea treatments are best for the patient. While there is not known rosacea cures, treatments for rosacea to reduce flare-ups include medicine that is applied to the infected area, lasers and other light treatments or antibiotics. The Vbeam Pulsed Dye Laser safely and effectively treats rosacea because it is designed to target vascular (red) skin conditions. The overall goal of rosacea treatment is to be able to identify what triggers rosacea outbreaks and use the treatments to keep the condition under control. It is also important that those with rosacea wear sunscreen daily to help prevent flare-ups.

melasma

Melasma is the patches of brown or gray-brown discoloration on your face, including the cheeks, nose, forehead, chin and above the lip, that are triggered by sunlight and hormones. The most common melasma triggers are sun exposure or a change in hormones. Melasma affects women more often than men, since it is often triggered by hormone changes in pregnant women or women taking birth control pills. Additionally, those with darker skin tones are at greater risk.

Melasma can fade on its own, however, in some cases it last for years. If the melasma does not go away on its own, Dermatologists Dr. Goldman or Dr. Dubow may recommend a hydroquinone to lighten the melasma patches, prescribe topical medicines, suggest a chemical peel or perform a laser treatment. In order to prevent melasma from developing, or coming back, it is important to wear a good sunscreen everyday and to protect your skin from the sun as much as possible.

warts

Warts are benign skin growths that appear when a virus (HPV) infects the top layer of the skin. Normally, warts are completely harmless. They are generally skin-colored and rough to the touch, but can be dark, flat and smooth. Common warts are warts on fingers, around the nails and on the back of the hands, flat warts are usually found on the face or forehead, and plantar warts are found on the soles of their feet, also known as plantar warts.

Warts usually go away without any medical treatment within 2 years. However, if you cannot get rid of your warts, the warts hurt, or you have many warts, Dr. Goldman and Dr. Dubow can assist in getting rid of warts. Wart removal treatments include cryotherapy (freezing), electrosurgery (burning), or excision.

rashes and ezcema

Eczema is a chronic condition of itchy skin and scaly rash. This condition is very common in children and is usually the cause of skin rashes that itch. The symptoms of eczema vary depending with age. In infants, eczema appears as a skin rash on face or scalp causing the skin to be dry, scaly and itchy. In children aged 2 years old to puberty, the eczema rash appears on elbows or knees and often times the skin begins to thicken and itch. The symptoms in adults with eczema are very similar to those in children.

If you or your child is suffering from eczema, Dr. Goldman and Dr. Dubow can prescribe a treatment for eczema to reduce and control the rash. While there are many at home treatments like using a cold compress or taking antihistamines to reduce severe itching and keeping the skin moisturized, Drs. Goldman and Dubow may prescribe topical creams or ointments to medicate the rash. The best eczema cream varies from patient to patient.

growths and moles

Moles are very common and almost every adult has few of them. Most moles are harmless, however in some cases they may become cancerous. Moles can differ in size, shape and color, and can appear anywhere on the skin.  It is very important to monitor moles and other pigmented patches in order to detect possible skin cancer growths. If you think you have a mole that is showing signs of skin cancers, it is important to come see Dr. Dubow as soon as possible.

Unless you have a pre-cancerous or cancerous mole, there is really no reason for mole removal. However, if a mole does need to be removed Dr. Dubow can remove it at the Goldman Dubow Dermatology Group office.
