Q: How does tattoo removal work?

A: Laser energy is directed at the tattoo, passing harmlessly through the outer layers of the skin and directly targeting the tattoo ink. Q: Are certain tattoos easier to remove than others?

A: Yes, certain colors respond quicker to laser tattoo removal. For example, black, red, dark orange, and dark blue are the easiest and fastest to removal. Green, purple, brown, light orange and light blue may require more visits. The depth of the tattoo will also determine how many treatments are needed, as well as the type of ink used. Lastly, your skin tone will play a part in how fast your tattoo responds to laser. Lighter skin tones typically have a higher success rate.

Q: How many treatments will I need?

Q: Does laser tattoo removal hurt?

A: Topical or injectable anesthesia is applied before the procedure to minimize discomfort. Most patients are completely numb during the treatment and feel no discomfort. After the numbing medication wears off most patients report mild irritation or itching for 1-3 days for which we prescribe a special antibiotic and cortisone cream.

Q: Will I have a scar?

A: Most patients will not scar, however scarring is possible with any medical procedure. Compliance with our detailed after-care instructions will reduce your chances of scarring.

Q: Can I remove only part of a tattoo?

A: Yes, our lasers are very accurate so we can remove just a portion of your tattoo if you wish.

Pre-treatment information for Laser Tattoo Removal

Avoid Sun for 4-6 Weeks Before Treatment: Tan skin cannot be treated as you risk burning the skin. Therefore, please take special care to avoid the sun and tanning beds on the area to be treated for 4-6 weeks before treatment. Wear broad-spectrum sun protection with SPF 30 or higher on any exposed area every day.
