At-Home Hair Loss Treatments:

Propecia

Propecia is an FDA-approved once-a-day pill proven to help reduce DHT, by inhibiting the formation of DHT in your scalp. Propecia helps reduce further hair loss and regrow visible hair. It was developed to treat mild to moderate male pattern hair loss on the vertex (top of the head) and anterior mid-scalp area (middle front of the head) in men.

Matrix 5,000

Matrix 5,000 by Elon is a supplement that contains biotin, a dietary supplement in the B vitamin group, which helps extend the hair growth period. Matrix 5000 is the only brand endorsed by the American Academy of Dermatology.

 

Shampoos

Shampoos are a great at home option to treat hair loss. The use of high quality shampoo will leave less residue on your skin and hair. Dr. Peter Goldman also recommends that patients rotate shampoos every week.

Elon thinning hair system is an over the counter shampoo that helps your hair grow thicker, stronger and healthier. It is also sulfate-free.

DCL shampoo helps to repair and strengthen dry, damaged hair and scalp. Wheat protein and amino acids build hair strength.

5% Minoxidil

5% Minoxidil is a topical solution used to regrow hair. Minoxidil is to be used twice a day by directly applying the solution to the hair loss area on the scalp. Continued use is necessary to increase and keep your hair regrowth. New hair regrowth may appear in approximately 12 weeks. The brand name of Minoxidil is Rogaine, but Goldman-Dubow Dermatology Group offers its own 5% minoxidil solution that also contains 6-7 other active ingredients that have been shown to help increase hair growth.

 

Scalp Injections

Scalp Injections are used to block the DHT that causes miniaturization of the hair follicle (which causes hair to get thinner/smaller). These local injections use an aqueous suspension of progesterone to block the DHT. Once the DHT is blocked the hair follicle can stop miniaturizing and often start regrowing. Dr. Goldman was one of the physicians who pioneered this innovative treatment, and has patients fly in from around the country to receive it. Most often scalp injections are recommended every 1-3 months, and are a great solution to hair loss los angeles.

Dr. Goldman finds that success rates are increased by using all 3 treatments simultaneously:
1. Oral DHT Blocker (Propecia)
2. Topical Minoxodil-Like Preparation
3. Local Scalp Injection Therapy

Important Note: Because of the inherent lag time in hair response, no clinically noticeable effect from any therapy can be experienced in less than 3-9 months. Also, allow for the normal increase in hair shedding from September to December in the North Temperate Zone (ie North America).

Hair transplant surgery:

A hair transplant is a surgical technique that involves moving individual hair follicles from one part of the body (donor site) to the bald or balding parts (the recipient site). Los Angeles hair transplant surgeon Dr. Peter Goldman is a world-renowned expert in the field.

Micrograft and follicular unit transplant (FUT) is an in-office medical procedure that redistributes healthy hair follicles from non-thinning areas at the sides and very back of the head to the thinning or balding areas on top. Since hair naturally grows in follicle groupings of one to four hairs, these naturally occurring follicular units can be transplanted and achieve a natural appearance.

Healthy hair follicles are found in good supply in most people. In men, these strong, hormone-resistant hairs are generally concentrated in a horseshoe-shaped area at the very back of your head (the donor site). Dr. Goldman will choose hairs of various textures for transplantation to the areas where more hair is needed. A strip of tissue is removed from the donor site and closed with sutures. (The resulting scar remains concealed under the hair when healed). The strip contains the individual follicles, which grow naturally in groups of one to four hairs each. The follicles are carefully prepared by Dr. Goldman under magnification, and the individual follicular units are subsequently transplanted to the balding area.

Patients usually see beginning results within 6 months and hair growth continues to improve over the course of 9-12 months. The grafted hair is natural and permanent.
